As we gear up for a brand new school year, I’m working on unit study planning and creating some new unit studies for my girls. They love unit studies so we try to incorporate at least one per month. While they are plenty of free and paid unit studies available on the internet, I enjoy creating my own so I can tailor it to our family. My girls both really enjoy art, music and cooking so I like to include lots of projects, music and recipes when planning our unit studies.
A few weeks ago I shared how to easily plan your own unit studies in 5 easy steps. Today I want to share the unit study planning guide that I’ve created to help streamline my unit study creation and keep my information organized. This guide walks you through all the components that make up a unit study and helps you organize and track your plans.
I print a set of the worksheets for each unit study that I create. I add them into one of these accordion style folders where I start to compile all the worksheets, printables, and other materials for our unit study. This helps me keep all the pieces in one place and I can file the unit study away in case we decide to revisit it another year (my girls will do our dolphin unit study multiple times a year if I let them!)
So gather some topic ideas, put on a pot of coffee and jump into planning unit studies for this upcoming homeschool year! They’re great to have on hand and ready to go in the event your plans or schedule changes and you need a filler activity or a break from your regular curriculum!
