50 States Unit Study

Creating lesson plans to study the 50 states can be a huge undertaking. There are so many amazing facts to learn about each of the 50 states. You don’t want to skip over any interesting places, important people, geographical stats, or other important things about each state. But how can you squeeze everything in while keeping it fun and light? If you’re planning to learn about the 50 states in your homeschool, you’ve come to the right place! This huge list of resources is broken down by state and gives you all the tools and information you need to create an amazing 50 states unit study.

Creating a 50 States Unit Study

When creating a United States unit study, you may be trying to add something to supplement your current homeschool curriculum. You could also be creating a stand-alone state unit study. Either route you take, you’ll want to ensure you have a timeline mapped out, a resource list, books, worksheets, notebooking pages, and hands-on activities. You may also want to create a list of goals that you’d like to meet when completing your state study, such as:

  • state capitals
  • state symbols
  • interesting state facts
  • places you’d like to visit
  • history of the state

If your children are older, you may also consider having them complete a research paper or project on one specific state. This could be your home state, a state your kids enjoyed learning about, or a state with a history that interests your family.

  1. I purchased the 50 states study pack and recently started using it with my 6 and 8 year old. We are loving it! The only issue we have come across is that the Hawaii map on the first page for Hawaii is upside down so it was difficult for them to locate the capital accurately and other cities. Is there a way to get the file updated?

    1. Hi Tarah! I’m glad you are loving the 50 States Study Pack! I apologize for the inverted map and have updated the file. You should have received an email with the updated product or you can redownload from your account page.
